Every contract packers dream

BLUE CHIP multinational cereal and crisp manufacturers are benefiting from the efficiency offered by 12 Streamfeeders installed at leading contract packer Perpack Ltd.

Perpack installed it first Streamfeeder nearly 10years ago and, according to technical director, “It has been such an absolutely unbelievable machine that the company now has 12 at its Normanton, West Yorkshire site.”

The ST1250 is the latest Streamfeeder to be installed, although Berriman is quick to point out that the original unit, commissioned nine years ago, is still providing trouble-free service for the contract packer. Indeed, this original machine was installed because of the endless problems caused by another make of friction feeder.

In addition to cereals and crisps Perpack is using the Streamfeeders to insert a diverse range of products into flow-wrappers at various speeds such as children’s collector cards such as Pokemon and millionaire cards into magazines.

“The Streamfeeders are very efficient, easy to set up and easy to change,” says Berriman. “They really are the perfect machine.”

Supplied by UK agents Partners in Packaging, the micro-processor controlled ST1250 features Differential Friction Technology which offers precise product separation and singulation. For example, speeds in batch mode (10 business cards/batch) are up to 1,950 pieces/minute, while in one shot mode business cards can be inserted at over 750 pieces/minute. Applications include:

·   Feeding and collating collectable cards, wrapped/sleeved CDs, instruction sheets, and promotional material for software and computer packaging

·   Feeding magazines and address sheets into poly-wrappers for mailing

·   Instruction manuals for electronics and appliance packaging

·   Greetings card collating into wrappers and cartoners

·   Base card feeding into wrappers

Duncan Macintyre, joint managing director of Partners in Packaging says: “The flexibility and reliability offered by the Streamfeeder card feeder units are particularly significant in the contract packing arena where short runs of many different products is common place.” He goes on to say that this equipment also offers very attractive payback rates in every manufacturing sector.
