Sainsbury’s benefits from PiP’s efficient solution
Lighthorne Herbs, suppliers of fresh cut herbs to the major supermarkets, is benefiting from the installation of two Twin Lane IPP 290D tray de-nesters from Partners in Packaging Ltd that have helped both to reduce production costs and meet the exacting demands of major retailers.
Suppliers to the major multiples since 1984, Lighthorne Herbs says the two de-nesters, which can operate at speeds of up to 80 packs/minute, will provide pay back within 12 months on their Sainsbury’s herb production. Partners in Packaging, worked with Lighthorne to provide a flexible system that would successfully replace a labour-intensive bagged herbs format.
The Partners in Packaging de-nesters deliver plastic punnets to be filled with fresh herbs prior to being flow-wrapped and, according to Sam Turner, Operations Director, Lighthorne Herbs, “provide an efficient, flexible and cost-effective solution”.
Quick repeatable operator size changes are made using the removable Kwik clip® frames, eliminating the need for operator adjustments to change tray size.
Turner said the company had to re-think the type of packaging used to meet the demand of retail customers to save money and increase supply. “We chose the tray de-nesters from Partners in Packaging as they are proven to be the most flexible and reliable on the market and the installation is helping us to increase production while at the same time lowering labour costs. We expect a return on our investment within a year.” |
