Partners in Packaging reduce tomato packing costs with an MGS Rotary Tray Denester
When APS Salads, one of the country’s leading tomato packers looked at reducing packaging costs, they approached Partners in Packaging to supply an MGS RPP 451 tray denester for their 6 pack and 8 pack trays.
“We had previously installed an intermittent pick and place denester from Partners onto another line” said David Pearson, Facilities Director of APS Salads, “and we were extremely happy with the reliability of the machine, and Partners ability to provide an excellent after sales service”
“Not only was the required speed of 120 trays/min quite high, but the MGS RPP machine can feed trays of a significantly thinner grade than other denesters we looked at” said David Pearson. The RPP machine has made major savings to our operation by reliably denesting 125 micron thickness trays which are much thinner than the industry standard 200 micron which in turn has led to less down time on the line due to miss placed trays. David also commented “we can now denest 8 pack trays automatically with the quick change clip head as our old denester was unable to denest 8 pack trays which in turn incurred extra labour in periods of promotion”
The compact footprint MGS model RPP 451 tray denester uses a system of 4 rotating pick off heads, which pick and place the trays from a single magazine into the continuously moving infeed of the flowrapper. An automatic tomato loader then feeds tomatoes from both sides of the infeed into the tray which is then flowrapped at speeds of up to 120 packs/min.
Partners in Packaging have supplied over 50 tray denesting machines into the UK fruit and tomato industry, from flexible quick size change low cost intermittent pick and place to high speed rotary machines like APS Salads says Duncan Macintyre of Partners in Packaging.
